November 9th, 2007 ThreeHeadedMonkey Posted in Charts, Japan, Xbox 360 3 Comments »

The latest Japanese sales figures just came out. There’s no surprise about the biggest selling game of the week – it’s the fantastic Super Mario Galaxy. In second place, amazingly, it’s an Xbox 360 game! Ace Combat 6 flew off the shelves this week, selling over 70,000 units.

Super Mario Galaxy Wii 250,585
Ace Combat 6 Xbox 360 76,708
Final Fantasy Tactics A2 DS 50,514
Super Robo Scramble Commander PS2 20,525
DS Literature Collection DS 18,254

Riding the success of Ace Combat 6, the Xbox 360 actually managed to outsell the PS3! Pretty good news for Microsoft, Sony will draw a little consolation from the current popularity of the PSP.

DS Lite 78,552
PSP 59,714
Wii 37,617
Xbox 360 17,673
PS3 17,434

New Scene it controllers for Xbox 360

November 9th, 2007 ThreeHeadedMonkey Posted in Xbox 360 1 Comment »

Here’s a pic of the new controllers for the Scene It game on Xbox 360. Aimed at being family friendly and, dare we say it, capturing some of the Wii’s market share, the Scene It game is an interactive movie quiz, more commonly seen on regular DVD players. Fortunately the controllers are included in the game’s $60 price tag, so you don’t have to shell out to get your hands on them.

Sensible World of Soccer to arrive in November?

November 6th, 2007 ThreeHeadedMonkey Posted in Xbox 360 2 Comments »

The all time classic Sensible World of Soccer has been expected on the Xbox Live Arcade for some time now. It has been delayed a few times, but developers Codemasters are hoping the game will make it out by the end of the month. The problem has been the famously laborious certification process for live titles. I guess that’s the price we pay for the quality of the live experience.

We’re really looking forward to firing up SWOS again and can’t wait to try the online mode. It’s understandable that it’s taking some time to perfect – the original game included pretty much every professional soccer league in the world (in 1994) and bearing in mind you can not only play, but manage and trade players, there’s a lot of complexity in there.

Our fingers are crossed.

We Got Super Mario Galaxy, but the Japanese prefer Ace Combat 6

November 1st, 2007 ThreeHeadedMonkey Posted in Japan, Mario, Wii, Xbox 360 1 Comment »

Super Mario Galaxy went on sale today in Japan. We went along to Osaka’s Yodobashi camera store to get our copy. hoping there might be some kind of promotional stuff going on, but although there were a couple of Galaxy displays, Ace Combat 6 seemed to be getting more attention from the public.

A quick non-scientific survey of the people in our queue showed 4 people buying Ace Combat 6 for Xbox 360, and only us and the guy behind us buying Super Mario Galaxy. We were pretty surprised by that. It could be that it was lunchtime on a weekday, so there were more salaryman types than usual about. It could even be that the local planespotting group came along together, but we were pretty surprised by it, and will be interested to see the sales figures for the games when they come out next week.

We’ll also be posting some more on Mario Galaxy if we can tear ourselves away long enough.
