Killa – Korean Psychological Horror

One of the demos on show at the last BitSummit was Killa, a horror game from Black Tangerine. Published by Toei, it’s by a 4-member Korean team of female developers.

It’s an unusual indie game, dark and brooding, and begins with you trying to escape a creepy puppet show. There’s a trigger warning at the start which should be heeded, as dark themes are involved.

The art style is paper-crafty, with you maneuvering your 2D character around a 3D space. The environments are surreal and it’s not clear if you are stuck in a dream or nightmare. There’s broody music playing over the top, too.

Gameplay wise, you hunt around scenes for objects that you can place in an attempt to recreate what happened. It’s a good idea and we’re hoping to see how well it’s realized in the final game. Later it seems to develop into a more traditional adventure.

There’s no news on a release date, but Killa is one to keep an eye on. The demo, which does have a few rough edges, is available on Steam. Here’s a link to the game’s homepage:
